How Can I Be Sure of Heaven?

Picture
Everything we know about God and His plan of salvation is found in His inspired Word, the Bible.

The Bible says, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God.” (Romans 10:17)

Let’s look what the Bible says about attaining eternal life:

First of all the Bible says that we are guilty of sin and, therefore, we fall short of God’s perfection. (Romans 3:10-12, 23)

The good news is that God sent His only begotten Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, to be born as a man in order to die on the cross for our sins. He became our sacrifice, which God accepted on our behalf. He was buried and rose again the third day according to the scriptures. This is the gospel that Jesus said must be received by faith in order to have eternal life in heaven. (John 3:16; I Cor. 15:1-4)

Salvation results from a decision that one has to make. Jesus said, “Ye must be born again.” (John 3:3)

That decision involves several things:

  • You must understand that you are a sinner and cannot save yourself.
  • You must believe the gospel: that Jesus shed His blood on the cross for you. He took your place, rose from the grave, and ever lives as your Savior. (John 6:28, 29)
  • You must call upon the name of the Lord for salvation. (Romans 10:9, 10, 13)

If you believe the things stated above from God’s Word, and you want to be saved, you can pray something like this:

“Dear heavenly Father, I understand that I am a sinner and cannot save myself. I thank you for sending Jesus to die on the cross for me. I believe that Jesus rose from the grave and I receive Him now as my Lord and Savior. Thank you for saving my soul. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen."
What do I do now that I am saved?

  • Read your Bible and pray every day.
  • Find a solid Bible-believing church and attend regularly.
  • Be baptized, take communion, and ask God to help you to do His will and to live for Him.
